Utah FORGE Data Distribution

Access to FORGE's seismic data

Overview

This site provides access to the seismic data generated by the The Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE) project. The data distribution is made possible by the University of Utah's Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC). The goal of this site is to provide a brief overview of a particular dataset followed by a wget script for fetching the data.

It is important to keep in mind that the data collected during the FORGE project is fundamentally heterogeneous as many different participants have collected seismic data in varying formats. Consequently, the data obtained with this service will be in the format in which it was collected. This means that you will encounter standard SEGY formats, custom SEGY formats, and custom SEGD (Fairfield Nodal) formats - to name a few. We will try to provide utilities so that users can read the waveform data but we have no intention of offering a service that will perform on-the-fly data conversions.

A final point is that this repository is a stop-gap. Near the FORGE project's completion we will look to transfer the waveform data collected here to the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology Data Management Center (IRIS DMC). When that time comes, we will announce that this service is deprecated.
